Randahl Construction built two new commercial freezer foundations for Shanghai Wholesale Inc. in St. Paul, MN, engineered by SRA Architects and permitted through the City of St. Paul. The team saw the project through from demolition to finished slab — saw cutting and removing the existing 12″ concrete floor, excavating and compacting for two freezer pits, and cutting a temporary access opening into the building for equipment and material handling. Double treated freeze boards were installed around the perimeter of both slabs, followed by two layers of structural wire mesh, a 6-mil poly vapor barrier, and six inches of staggered rigid insulation. The new 6″ thick, 4,000 PSI concrete floors were formed, pumped, and poured with a slip-resistant medium broom finish. Randahl Construction managed the entire project from start to finish, providing full-time site supervision, coordinating all subcontractors and inspections, and maintaining a safe, clean job site throughout the winter build.
