Randahl Construction managed an extensive concrete floor renovation at Activar’s production facility, directing the tearout and rebuilding of industrial slabs engineered to anchor manufacturing equipment. We removed and disposed of over 2,000 square feet of deteriorated 6-inch concrete slab before installing three custom-designed platforms: a main section totaling 1,260 square feet at 10-inch thickness, a heavy-duty structural base of 504 square feet poured 24 inches deep to handle concentrated loads, and an additional 280-square-foot area at 10-inch depth. All platforms included precision-formed 2-inch depressions around every perimeter to house track mounting assemblies, while resilient foam isolation strips were positioned at all connection points to block force transmission across separate concrete sections. Acknowledging the critical need to sustain manufacturing operations throughout the project, our crew erected a comprehensive containment barrier covering 7,200 square feet to separate demolition and construction zones from active production spaces.
Engineering specifications dictated the use of 5,000 PSI rapid-set concrete combined with a dual-layer steel bar reinforcement matrix (½” to ⅝” rebar set at 12-inch intervals) rather than standard wire fabric, guaranteeing the superior structural performance demanded by heavy machinery installations. Randahl’s self-performing team managed all construction activities from start to finish—from demolishing existing slabs and excavating subgrade material to compacting 12 inches of Class 5 aggregate foundation, topped with power-finished surfaces and sealed with professional-grade curing compounds. Our contractual responsibilities extended well beyond the concrete installation itself, including grouting of track anchor systems three weeks after pouring to respect proper hardening timeframes, complete offsite transportation of all demolition waste and excavated materials, plus coordination of independent engineering testing with certified compliance reports.
