Hales Machine Tool, Inc. is a leading machine shop in the Twin Cities located in Plymouth, MN. Coming straight from a referral, Hales Machine contacted Randal Construction to assist them with some roof repairs, tuckpointing and block repairs. Our team quickly made a site visit identified the issues and was able to provide them with a complete turn-key solution.

Roof Repair Inspection Report:
During our visual inspection of the roof we observed several issues that should be addressed to keep this roof system watertight. We found several defects, some larger than others, which could be allowing water into the roof system or building. After our removal and investigation into the metal coping detail, we observed that the waterproofing under the coping is a single ply of roofing felt. This roofing felt by itself is an impregnatable material and is not a waterproofing membrane.
The metal coping itself was not fabricated long enough on the inside of the canted edge parapet. This is not allowing the metal to cover enough of the base flashing and fasteners, leaving them exposed.
We also observed several small leak issues, from sealant failure to holes in details. We found that the scupper flashings have also come loose and may be allowing water into the wall system.
There were also several blisters found in the base flashings at the parapet and one in the roof field. This can be caused by an installation issue or moisture issue.
Tuckpointing & Block Repair
After reviewing the inspection with the owners of the building we also inspected the building and found over 50 areas in need of tuck pointing and block repair. Once the roof repair was complete we began the tuck pointing and block repair. Our masonry team completed the necessary block repair and our sandblasting team came in to prep the building for a fresh paint job.

Summary: After a detailed inspection Randahl Construction, Inc. made critical roof repairs helping the building maintain a water proof condition. Along with the roof repairs, The Randahl Construction Masonry Team performed tuckpointing and block repair through the entire back of the building and dock area prepping the building for a sandblast. The building was then sandblasted and painted with an industrial paint finish completing the exterior remodel.
