Randahl Construction completed a comprehensive concrete slab replacement project involving the demolition and installation of multiple industrial-grade concrete pads for Activar. The scope included sawing and removing 2,072 square feet of existing 6-inch thick concrete, then installing three new concrete pads with varying specifications: a 45′ x 28′ pad at 10 inches thick, a 28′ x 18′ structural pad at 24 inches thick, and a 20′ x 14′ pad at 10 inches thick. All new pads were constructed with 2-inch insets for track system installation and included isolation expansion joints at all edges. The work was performed within a dust protection barrier measuring 60′ x 120′ to minimize disruption to the facility’s operations.

The installation utilized high-early strength 5,000 PSI concrete with double rebar mat reinforcement (1/2″-5/8″ rebar at 12 inches on center) instead of standard wire mesh, providing superior structural integrity for the industrial application. Randahl Construction self-performed all demolition work, excavated for proper base preparation with 12 inches of compacted Class 5 material, and applied a smooth trowel finish with curing seal. The project also included grouting the track system 2-3 weeks after installation, hauling all excavated materials off-site, and providing special inspection and test results. This project demonstrated Randahl’s capability to handle complex industrial concrete work requiring precise specifications and minimal operational disruption.
