Randahl Construction recently executed a significant industrial concrete floor improvement project for Activar’s manufacturing facility, replacing more than 2,000 square feet of failing 6-inch concrete and constructing three precision-engineered equipment foundations. The upgrades included a 1,260-square-foot slab poured at 10 inches thick, a heavily reinforced 504-square-foot pad built to a 24-inch depth to support heavy machinery, and an additional 280-square-foot foundation formed at 10 inches. Each new foundation incorporated 2-inch recessed perimeter channels designed for rail-system integration, along with high-density foam expansion joints to reduce vibration transmission and safeguard nearby structures. To ensure production remained uninterrupted, our team also set up a 7,200-square-foot dust- and noise-control barrier that maintained a clean, organized, and operational work environment throughout construction.
This installation called for 5,000 PSI rapid-set concrete supported by a dual-layer rebar grid made from ½”–⅝” steel spaced on 12-inch centers—far exceeding the load performance of traditional wire mesh and providing the durability needed for heavy industrial equipment. Randahl Construction’s self-performing team handled every phase of work, from demolition of the existing slab and detailed subgrade preparation to placing and compacting a 12-inch Class 5 aggregate base built to strict engineering requirements. The new slab was power-troweled to a smooth, uniform finish and treated with high-grade curing compounds to ensure optimal strength gain and long-term reliability. Once the concrete achieved its specified cure, the crew completed all remaining tasks, including precise anchor grouting for track and rail systems, full site cleanup, debris removal, and coordination with third-party engineers for inspection and certification. The end result is a robust, expertly engineered industrial concrete system capable of supporting high-demand production operations without disrupting facility workflow.
