Randahl Construction completed a full industrial floor reconstruction at Activar’s manufacturing facility, managing every phase of the demolition and rebuild of the equipment-supporting concrete slabs. Our crew removed and transported offsite more than 2,000 square feet of deteriorated 6-inch concrete before constructing three new precision-engineered foundation pads: a 1,260-square-foot section poured at a 10-inch depth, a heavily reinforced 504-square-foot pad built to 24 inches to accommodate high-capacity machinery, and a 280-square-foot area also formed at 10 inches. Each pad was designed with 2-inch recessed perimeter channels to integrate the rail system, and compression-resistant foam isolation joints were installed to keep structural movement from transferring between the individual slab sections. To ensure the facility remained fully operational throughout the project, our team also erected a 7,200-square-foot containment system that shielded surrounding production areas from dust and construction activity.
Project specifications required the use of 5,000 PSI rapid-set concrete reinforced with a heavy-duty, dual-layer rebar system (½”–⅝” bars positioned at 12-inch spacing). This configuration delivers significantly greater strength than standard wire mesh and provides the load-bearing capacity essential for industrial machinery. Randahl Construction’s in-house crew managed the entire build process—including slab removal, subgrade excavation, installation and compaction of a 12-inch Class 5 aggregate base, and application of a power-troweled finish sealed with professional curing compounds. Additional responsibilities included grouting the track anchor assemblies after a three-week curing period, coordinating complete removal of all debris and excavated material, and facilitating independent engineering tests with certified compliance documentation.
